History
  • Founded 1500 years ago
  • Cemented alliance among dragonmarked houses (led by Lord Hadran d’Cannith)
  • Ziggurat of the Twelve built as a focal point to the cause
  • Beginning – shaped the role of the houses
  • Last War – King Kaius I demanded alliance/recruits, many members left because of neutrality or other ties; diminished political standing
  • Currently – diminished power, but returned neutrality, trying to replace members
  • Dragons – many dragons believe the dragonmarks should be wiped out like the Mark of Death
  • Arcane Congress (Aundair) – friendly rivalry; since war the Congress has gain superiority
Purpose
  • Center for research and study – arcane magic / dragonmark potential
  • Combined skills of the houses led to feats of great invention:
    • Kundarak depository (safe-deposit boxes) – Orien, Cannith, Kundarak
    • Orien lightning rail
    • Cannith warforged
    • Lyrandar elemental airships
    • Sivis message stations
  • Resources: impressive mystical workshops, tremendous array of mystical supplies (some exceedingly rare), superior funding, vast arcane libraries (with unique spells and rituals), and the talents of some of the most gifted arcanists
  • Membership: greatest wizards, magewrights and other arcanists compete for employment and research grants; advances shared equally among houses (but also secret projects with diverted funding or concealed breakthroughs)

    • Oversees operations
    • 15 seats: 1 per house except 3 Cannith and 1 each for Phiarlan and Thuranni
    • Looks for magical developments that have practical value to society (but also profit)
